Waddup!

THe origins of african hiphop lies in that region where the first african ancestors develop their speech, the ancient griots of old where those who would spit their verses acapella or accompanied by the drumbeats. There aint nuttin knew goin on now.

My guess would the Kilamanjaro region and the origings of the nile.

each country has its own history but i know of a few countries where hip hop started at the same time it did in the US. this is mostly because these countries had a long history of US cultural influence. for instance, i have found rap music and visual imagery from many countries depicting a comparable level of knowledge and development in the culture with that in the US at the time. The earliest commercially released African hip hop albums were released around 1984 (the africanhiphop.com archive has them) but the culture was highly visible in many cities for a long time prior to that. i should know, i was breaking at age 5 in 1982.
