One of my favourite rap lines ever is "I done dirt like a worm"the imagery is complete,your imagination can grasp the notion of this tiny creature burrowing itself into the earth trying to make a living for Mrs Worm and the little wormies,a lot of people have to do dirt,dirt is an inescapable feature of existence on earth seeing as we are from dirt and to dirt we shall return,as a mataphor for life,imagine how hard it was to pass through school,for the graduates to get that BS.C,for emigrants to leave the country,for newlyweds to Meet the Parents like Ben Stiller.There was no escaping the dirt,the immersion in hardship or stress to get what was wanted or infact sometimes needed as a matter of necessity.After doing the dirt you can then say modestly or immodestly "been there done that"because of all the dirt caked under your fingertips as you clawed your way up towards the light.Its funny but human beings have an aversion to dirt,they hate to get their hands dirty.This post is about the dirt haters.

Ruggedman,Mode,Sauce,Sanchez and please do add the names of any other rapper whose names keep cropping up around here have done dirt.Rugged for one was drenched in it,AHH as a forum hurls dirt at those who have earned a right to our comments/criticism by doing dirt.Some posts are simply nonsensical in their critique of this rappers,it affects everybody because it becomes a label that applies to the moderates and free thinkers amongst us."AHH is a collection of underground artistes who hate on mainstream artistes because they havent broken through yet" thats a label!

Think Source,think Fortune,Think Word Up Magazine and remember that you do not build a industry by burying your brands under a ton of dirt,yes the underground is awash with mad talent,yes the mainstream has some quirks that need to be straightened but the answer is not in plunging us back into the dark ages when rap wasnt even played on Nigerian radio.Ruggedman says hes getting dissed here....Sauce....Modenine......who exactly then is the person that deserves unqualified respect and support.

The negativity is getting tired and frankly some of us might have to consider leaving this forum until positivity is the byword around here.....Just a thought.

I had a very interesting reponse to this from a member of the forum whose anonymity I will respect since his message was send via PM,needless to say that it is simply confirming what I have often repeated about heads using this site to post crap about mainstream artistes,for the avoidance of doubt I KNOW those whose stance on the "mainstream" is not controversial or inflammatory and this select group of people have in recent times been keeping a fair distance from AHH for a while now,making sporadic posts and avoiding commenting on issues.The reason why is not farfetched,nobody wants to be associated with a public organisation that does not regulate the activities of its members and is unmindful of its social obligations.

There are lapses in Nigerian hip hop,granted but it is the issues and NOT the people that should be adressed,MC XYZ is wack,that crew is this or that begs the question that what have YOU done lately?If Sanchez has a groundbreaking new video thats a positive point,if Ginos vid was world class,yo how did he do that?Writing this is a contribution of sorts to the development of Nigerian rap or better put- rap of Nigerian origin.

To the dude that wrote to me,never fear,I have no doubts that you and some others I wont mention represent the best of us as an underground movement,as rappers and as civilized gentlemen.Speaking on behalf of those people we sincerely appreciate and applaud the hustle of "mainstream artistes" and speaking amongst ourselves we do recognize the need to support our own.

First AHH is really reflecting it’s really image and I will be blunt on this because those that sent Oakes private messages are just toothless dogs. Wasn’t it on this same website that hip-hop heads crucified Sauce Kid for trashing AHH on a track? Now it’s Mode 9 and hip-hop heads are trying to be discreet, funny how it can be when the same set of people say they practice hip-hop. Anyway Mode 9 himself should have lived on one of his lines "ur diss track is nothin but a missed call, NO REPLY"; I will say he’s got a lot of time on his hands. Oakes personally I believe a problem shared is half solved, and it’s totally acceptable when hip-hop heads talk about the ghastly things that is terrifying the development of hip-hop in naija. Even American columnists talks about the situation of things in hip-hop and they also find time in their columns to criticize the bad things, so why can’t AHH heads do the same after all this place is the foundation of African hip-hop online?

Lastly do you indulge a spoilt child? Or do you take actions about his present state? That is how I picture the whole scenario.

I see 'em like this...coming from musicianship...ASA, ADE BANTU,LAGBAJA even FATAI ROLLING DOLLAR would hold they own anywhere on this planet...and I mean that. ADE BANTU wif his Afro Funk or Afro Beat...is a typical head.

This artists I lined up are the 'truth'. Talking about negativity...well, I would not and never cast my lot for artists who in the name of 'make money' make soft porns and the likes. And not just that...MCing and HIP HOP wise, not all MC's or artist fall under the line of Musician.

Unfortunately it is MUSIC we are talking about...Sasha can rap and sing (a plus for her) and I have never bad mouthed her.

No matter what Wyclef does today...Rock, Crunk wateva...I may not be feelin the new joint but...Looking at his whole career, he is a MUSICIAN. And I cannot take that away from him.

Modenine's nice. I've seen or read articles comparing him and Proverb. Some say Proverb is iller. I saw Proverb's Heartbeat video and I heard his Microphone sweet home...he is my idea of a complete MC. A South African said if...Proverb was the one that made the Cry song, he'd have been iller...and you know what...that's true.

Universal music has a standard it has attained and if anybody is not up to it...then...we TALK-A-LOT.

Why do heads feel that when Mode commented,he was speaking to them in person.All of Germany went to War but all of Germany were not Nazis,my point is he was alluding to "weak minded morons" that did not ring any bells within me personally,did it for any one of you and if so why?MHP some people tend to go overboard with their assesment of a persons performance and that is the problem.A third rate journal would say "Bush is a mxxxxxg! fascist who should be flogged for xyz,The Economist would say there is growing concern about the erosion of civil liberties in the US which seems to be the underlying basis for the War against terror.Which one of the two would get the widest circulation?

Thats what I mean about education and support,I have never even heard about Proverb,personally I do think Cry was firing on half cylinders and you are right about universal music having attained a standard BUT you cannot throw out the baby with the bathwater.Mode is one of our own,a lot of this cats are representatives by virtue of their hustle if not their talent,the industry has not attained the critical mass necessary for an all out revolution so it NEEDS the momentum of their advance,in War the infantry goes first and the infantry also suffers the highest casualties.This dudes are going first,they shouldnt have to be watching their flanks while trying to survive the cut throat nature of the Nigerian music industry.

Unleash as in dis him some more?Bottomline,Modenine can rap,whatever flaws as a person he does a creditable presentation of rapping which is far from fundamental.Get it straight,divisive tendencies wont cut it in this centrury,its all about consolidations,on the political scene power blocs form alliances,corporately groups merge,coolectively our interests are served if Mode or any other rapper from around this parts succeeds,They say Northerners are good politicians because they are very good at closing ranks and forming consensus opinions when their interests are threatened,alright what would you prefer the existence of a Modenine or the cloning of more Zaaky Adzes(no disrespect intended)

Did Sauce dis AHH on a track or did he refer to "those talking smack"?The particular problem with Sauce is the manner in which nicechick has presented him on this forum.He/She is as guilty of the charge of unwarranted abuse as any who "yabbed"without restraint.People are venting their angst against nicechick by putting down Sauce because of his/her terrible people skills,he needs a better publicist.The Saucekid thing is simply transferred agression.

On more positive notes,we should be discussing the merits or lack of for the Project Kancer project or MHP's singles or Raplogics new website or the pros and cons of Apops album or the disappearance of the stalwarts around here,By fine tuning the game from this level as it were,it is possible to influence the industry which is what AHH is supposed to be spearheading instead of the continous perpetuation of individual egos.

I havent heard the track by modo, but taking Oakes spelling to be right , i can see African hip hop forum'S. Did any body notice the "s". it might be a little thing but have you ever stopped to think, "this guy might not be talking to AfricanHipHop forum"(no "s")? Well, it seems far fethced but i want to believe that Modo was not referrring specifically to our AHH. If he was(like MHP almost said) Fuck him. Even Jesus Christ was criticised, people talk trash(at least thats how you see it) but to them they are making common sense. Who are we to Judge the right from the wrong? I Once heard that a true Democracy is"recognizing the vote of the majority but not neglecting the will of the minority". So if the crowd thinks this is it does that make it right?

Hell no. So if Modo thinks anybody on AHH has belittled or descredited anybody who didnt desrve(from the corwds point of view) let him call names. "Toss it in the open" "Subliminals" are not better, Modenine.
